Happy New Year

How will you end your year? A walk in the park, a bike ride? Maybe a swim or a great aerobic workout. Or just hanging out with family and friends!
What ever you choose to do today. I hope it brings you much joy!

Happy New year from me to you!

Marathon Training

Day 6: Today is a long run day for me. I am off bright and early to hit 6 miles. I am feeling a bit under the weather but I am going to get out there and try. That's all that matters right? Here's hoping for a good playlist on the iPod!

Tip of the day: Make sure the iPod is charged before you head out! Ha!

Marathon Training

Day 5: Today is a rest day for running. My muscles need recovery time. So what does one do on a rest day? REST! Take it easy. I like to either do a nice bit of yoga or some really great stretching. Today I will stretch.

Tip of the day: Do not push the stretches. Do not bounce. Try and ease into your stretches to avoid injury. You will be able to reach your toes soon enough!

Have an amazing day!

Marathon Training Day 4

Day 4: It is a pretty cold morning, so I am opting to run indoors again. I will log 3 miles today. I am going to work on my pace as this is an important component to a good race for me. I personally do not start out of the gate going as fat as I can. Doing so depletes me and I do not have anything left for the big finish.

Someone has asked "When do you Stretch?" I stretch a bit before I run, just to warm up my muscles and I stretch really well after, when my muscles are tight and need to be loosened up. What kind of stretching you ask? I am a huge fan of Yoga stretching. It works for me.
I use a DVD at home. Yoga for Athletes with Rodney Yee are my favorites. I purchased mine through Amazon. It is also available at Gaiam.com. The DVD is for all athletes whatever your sport. It has a short 15 min program (for before you run) and a longer program (for after you run).

Tip of the day: Find a routine that works for you and stretch! Your body will thank you!

Well I am off to run. Have a great day!

Marathon Training days 1-3

Day 1: Monday December 26, 2011. Monday was start day. In my training Monday is a rest day which means I will do Yoga. It is an important part of my training. I will do this twice a week to keep my muscles stretched out - plus it just centers my soul.

Day 2: Tuesday December 27, 2011. Weather was horrible today so I headed off to my local Y. I had recently purchased a foot pod to use indoors with my Garmin 405x. I laced up, pushed start training on my watch and off I ran. Epic fail! I did not synch the foot pod before I ran. It measured a 20:00 minute mile. I also realized it was time for new shoes.

Day 3: Wednesday December 28, 2011. Decided it was still a bit to cold out for me this morning so I decided to head to the Y again today. I synched up my watch and laced up my NEW shoes and logged a nice 3 miles at a 9:04 pace. I am happy to say the foot pod worked beautifully and my feet are thankful for the shoes.

Normally I will post day to day. I just needed to catch up.

Marathon Training

I can not even believe I am about to attempt this, but here goes! As many of you know I am a runner girl; I love to run! It makes me happy. In April 2012 I will be attempting my first Marathon. Oh boy, what am I thinking? I owe this craziness to my friend and race running partner, Gitty. It is on her bucket list so that means it is on mine.

I am going to journal my training here on my blog so watch for it and follow along. As always feel free to leave comments, ask questions and join me in my training!

I'm back!

O.k so first go around with my blog not so good! I so want to make it work so here goes! Wish me luck!
